Stop Motion Animation
Focusing on capturing the identity (ID) of the SYFY Network and its science fiction themes through creating a 15 second stop motion paper cut out animation.
Software
Dragonframe and Adobe After Effects

It was an important step to get comfortable with animating each of the paper puppets before starting the final animation. This allowed me to understand how the puppets moved and push better animation with specific animation principles.
Each puppet or other element was animating separately on a light table. Then both were brought into After Effects and using the levels effect, I could black out any grey colors or light coming through the edges of the paper for a cleaner look. Using the "Multiply" blend mode, the puppets could be composited on top of a background texture, made using a mix of fractal and turbulent noise. Then finishing touches such as a vignette and blinking eyes on the characters could be added.
