Cords & Contraptions
Challenge
Through the lens of a                                          themed animation, this project reinforced animation skills, a better understanding of the Redshift render engine, post-production pipelines, and reconstructing AOV passes within Nuke.
The Approach
This particular "machine" centered on the messy retro computer setup. With typical '70s wood panel walls and computers that are all held together by some tangled extension cords. A series of events occur just to eventually turn on a desk fan.

2D Details
With a little spare time at the end of production, I animated some glitchy and imaginary code to give the retro screen a subtle bit of life. The sequence was then taken from After Effects and used as a texture behind the glass. Retaining the transparent alpha in 3D with the use of a color splitter node.
AOVs & Image Finishing
Part of the technical learning of this project included an introduction to AOVs and post-effects in Nuke. Reconstructing each AOV pass in this format allowed for various 3D editability without rerendering. Sutble color correction, optical glow, chromatic aberration, and grain were then added to achieve a more filmic look.
