2D Compositing
Tasked with creating a themed animation to be composited onto live footage on a non-digital frame. Inspired by scenery I have seen while spending many summers on Cape Cod. Focusing on the liveliness versus stillness of different seasons. This was my first time using Nuke for compositing.
Software
Adobe Illustrator, After Effects, Davinci Resolve, and Nuke
The animation was created within a slightly smaller width resolution to match the dimensions of the real life post card.
Here is a breakdown of the composite. Along with Corner Pin Tracking to attach the animation to live footage, there were several other elements to make the composite more believable. Including matching camera lens distortion, matching black and white levels of the animation to the footage, adding back in blur to match the focus plane, and adding reflections on the card back in.
Much of the animation relied on a mix of points to nulls and puppet pins to nulls rigging. Particularity, to achieve the bendy plant animation, an expression seen below was used to attach puppet pin points to a corresponding null. The bottom null has a Wiggle expression to wave back and worth. ValueAtTime expressions were also used to delay the rest of the nulls in the rig, creating the plant movement without keyframes.
